What auto insurance is required in Florida?

With more than 275,000 miles of roads and more than 14.6 million licensed drivers, you’ll be sharing the highway with lots of other folks in Florida. Some areas are a lot more challenging than others, but no matter where you drive in the state, you face the same requirements as every other driver. At Kingdom Tree Insurance Group in Tallahassee, FL we are independent agents who represent many different carriers. We will work for you to find the best policy for your needs.

The required insurance in Florida is 10/20/10. That is $10,000 in bodily injury for the first person injured in an accident you cause, with a total of $20,000 for the entire accident. The final $10,000 is for damage to property. Since Florida is a no-fault state, you are also required to have uninsured motorist insurance equal to the bodily injury coverage and $10,000 in PIP (Personal Injury Protection) to protect you.

If you have a leased vehicle or you have an auto loan, the lender or lessor will require that you also have collision and comprehensive coverage to protect their vehicle.

As a Florida driver, you may wonder if having just the required insurance is enough for you. If you own your vehicle outright, you don’t need to protect your vehicle, but as a person who relies on their vehicle to get to work and to do all the things that people need to do, you may want to protect your car. That means opting for collision and comprehensive coverage even if it is not required. Having to pay to replace or repair your vehicle out of your own pocket is not something that most people can handle without struggling.

Contact Kingdom Tree Insurance Group in Tallahassee, FL when you are in need of auto insurance or have questions about requirements and coverage.
