What’s NOT Covered by Homeowners Insurance?

Although homeowners insurance creates peace of mind for many homeowners, there are areas that aren’t covered under a standard homeowners policy. Unfortunately, many homeowners aren’t aware of these areas and are often caught off-guard. When circumstances reveal that a homeowners insurance policy won’t cover a particular event, item, or situation, many homeowners are surprised. As a result, it’s important to become familiar with what’s not covered under a standard homeowners policy as well as what is covered. Our team at Kingdom Tree Insurance Group is committed to taking the confusion out of homeowners insurance by educating Tallahassee, FL residents on what is and isn’t covered.

What is Homeowners Insurance?
In short, homeowners insurance is designed to protect your home from unforeseen situations that include interior and exterior damage and theft. This insurance provides damage protection, coverage for loss and theft, and personal liability protection for visitors who may be injured, or have their belongings damaged, while on your property.

What’s NOT Covered by Homeowners Insurance?
Homeowners’ insurance covers many things and can be beneficial in many different situations, but there are some situations in which homeowners insurance provides zero coverage. It’s best to be aware of these situations and take precautions if needed. Homeowners’ insurance won’t cover earthquakes or water damage caused by flooding. It also won’t cover damage or problems caused by negligence or wear and tear. Damage caused by nuclear hazards and war isn’t covered under a standard policy either.

However, more often than not, you can purchase addendums to cover some of these areas. However, flood insurance will have to be purchased as a separate policy. There are other areas of a homeowners policy where minimal coverage is provided. Once again, many of these areas can be remedied by purchasing more coverage or purchasing coverage as an addendum to a standard policy. If you have questions about homeowners insurance, call our team at Kingdom Tree Insurance Group. We’d be happy to answer your questions.
